Description
Students will have the opportunity to choose from three (3) topic questions to write their essay. These topics will come from the first four weeks of this unit.
Choose one (1) of the following questions:
- As organisations become more technology-driven, which do you think will become more important: the management of the human element of the organisation or the management of technology? Discuss. In your demonstration you must refer to the original Scientific view of management, contrasting this from the later Humanistic view of management. Use the management theories and concepts from Chapter 1, 2, 12, 16, 18, 19 and your own research to support your view.
- To be a successful manager of an organisation that operates internationally, requires a global mindset. What are the personal characteristics of a manager with a global mindset? How can an organisation ensure that its staff have a global mindset, dealing with different cultural values and diversity in the workplace, with suppliers, partners, and customers? Use the management theories and concepts from Chapter 3, 4, 12, 13, 14, 16, 18, 19 and you own research to support your view.
- Today’s organisations must consider sustainability and corporate social responsibility (CSR). Describe sustainability and CSR, and how these impact the decision making of today’s manager. How does the use of triple bottom line in an organisation assist in reaching the goals of sustainability and CSR? Use the management theories and concepts from Chapter 5, 6, 16, 17, 19 and 20, and you own research to support your view.

When?
The essay is due to be submitted by Sunday Week 11, 11:59pm. This is to be submitted via the Turnitin similarity checking link.
Format
Submit either a Word document or a PDF.
At the top of your essay provide your full name, student identification number and the question you are answering. No need for a title page.
An essay contains a central idea or argument, a thesis statement. An essay has four main components: an introduction, a series of body paragraphs, a conclusion, and a reference list.
The essay should include definitions of all key concepts, develop a thesis statement (claim, proposition, main idea); context (background, framework setting); reasons (support, evidence, examples); counterarguments (objections, contrary considerations); responses (refutations, answers to objections). Types include and may not be limited to reflective, critical, descriptive, persuasive, and narrative.
The length of the essay will be within +/- 10% of the word limit, that is between 1,800 and 2,200 words.
Each essay should use at least five (5) academic journals, books, e-books, websites or quality business articles from reputable and authoritative sources. In text referencing should be used. The reference list will be either APA or Harvard Business Reference.
